Meet Dr. Laborde

James Monroe Laborde, MD, MS (BE)

In 1969 I obtained a bachelors degree with honors in Engineering from Tulane University. My honors thesis concerned whiplash. In 1973 I received my M.D. from Tulane University. In 1975 I spent a year doing orthopaedic research on the lumbar spine and received a Masters of Biomedical Engineering. I was appointed an assistant professor of Biomedical Engineering and Orthopaedic Surgery at Vanderbilt and taught orthopaedic surgery there for two years. While there I became Chief of Orthopaedics at the Veterans Administration Medical Center. I also received several research grants and continued to do research on the spine. Since July 1981 I have been practicing orthopaedic surgery at Touro Infirmary in New Orleans. I also have a teaching appointment in the Departments of Orthopaedics and Biomedical Engineering at Tulane. I was appointed Chairman of Dept. of Orthopaedic Surgery at Touro Infirmary, January 1990 to January 1993. I am Board Certified in Orthopaedic Surgery and Forensic Medicine. I am Medical Director of Soboloff Center for Children and Chairman of the Medical Advisory Board of United Cerebral Palsy of Greater New Orleans. I received the National United Cerebral Palsy Outstanding Community Service Award in 2000. I was selected as Top Doctor by my peers in New Orleans Magazine, 2001.
